Frequently Asked Questions
Q: May I create a made-up race/specie for UM?
A: Sorry, but no. While we love to see what roleplayers do creatively with their characters, UM is strictly realistic when it comes to what specie or race can be created. That means no vampires, weres, or any other mythical or legendary creature can exist in UM, but it is discussed a lot in stories.
Q: Is UM a fantasy or a realistic dream?
A: A little bit of both. UM is mostly realistic, in a way that the same laws that apply this world applies in UM. The only fantasy that we allow is that the animals can talk, create crude objects like feathers/beads/other objects, and wear paints/dyes. There are also legends surrounding a gift called the Sight, but it has been long dead, and we're not sure what happened or if it even exists any more.
Q: Are there gods in UM?
A: Yes, but they exist ONLY in myth and stories. They are often passed down to new generations. Some animals have religions.
Q: Can I create a god character?
A: Your character can claim he's a god all day long, but that doesn't mean he's actually a real god (it would be interesting!). You can, however, create your own religion and pantheon if you so choose.
Q: Are extinct animals allowed?
A: Since UM is based on realism, having a direwolf, smilodon, or mammoth roam around during the 1100-1200s Transylvania would be pretty strange. Sorry, but no. However, if there was a creature that existed in 1100-1200 AD that is extinct now, you may create a character based from that era, as long as they are from the general area.
Q: What are the rules on aging and time in UM?
A: We currently don't have any rules on how characters age. If your characters have young, we trust that you will be reasonable in how they mature.
Q: Can I be staff?
A: We are on the lookout for potential staff, but we will come to you. We will not consider you just because you ask. However, we are in need of volunteers.
